Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It hasn’t been this cold in the Rochester area since that Siberian streak of temperatures experienced in the second half of January last year.

That streak included a minus 30 on Jan. 31st, 2019

The airport temperature fell to - 24 at 6:39 AM Friday, which broke the record low of -23 for Valentine’s Day that was set in 1951. Wind chill temps were in the minus 30 to 45-degree range Friday morning.

The temperature at the Rochester airport fell to -18 at 11:00 PM Thursday, setting a record for Feb. 13. The previous record low was -16 in 1971.

Thursday’s high was only 2 above and that occurred just after midnight and temps stayed below zero all day and will stay there until sometime Friday. The high of 2 degrees was also a record. The previous record low high temperature was 5 set in 1970.

Hang in there - it will be more than 50 degrees warmer Saturday.
