Update: Woman Found Dead Near Rochester School & Shopping Center ID'D

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester Police Department is investigating a woman’s death after her body was found in the freshly fallen snow.

A news release issued Thursday morning says officers responded to a report of two bodies seen lying on the ground around 2:50 Wednesday afternoon. 

Police responded to the location of the body discovery in the area of 14th St. and 4th Ave. Southwest, which is near the Crossroads Shopping Center and just north of the Rochester Math and Science Academy.

The woman was pronounced dead upon officers arrival. Responding officers rendered aid to the man until a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew arrived at the scene to transport him to a hospital, where he is said to be recovering as of Thursday morning. 

The names of the man and woman have not been released, however police say the woman is believed to be homeless. Investigators are working with the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the woman and determine her cause and manner of death, the news release says. 

Rochester Police Chief James Franklin issued a brief statement following the discovery of the woman’s body:

Homelessness is a complex issue, and RPD continues to seek a wide variety of solutions to help those experiencing it. Through a partnership with a new community outreach Drug & Alcohol Response Team, we are providing people with support services.

The investigation is being described as ongoing and no further information is being released as of Thursday morning.
