Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)-The Mayo Clinic Care Network is expanding.

The network, which is made up of independent healthcare organizations that have access to Mayo Clinic’s knowledge and expertise, will now have a presence in southeastern Ohio and northwestern West Virginia. The new members brings the total member organizations to 45 with locations throughout the U.S. as well as in Asia, India, Mexico and the Middle East. 

The latest organization to join the network is Memorial Health System. The group employs more than 2700 people across two hospitals, a stand-alone emergency room and 64 clinics, according to its website.

A news release announcing the acquisition says Memorial Health staff will also have access to Mayo Clinic resources which include: 

  • AskMayoExpert: a database of concise clinical information on hundreds of medical conditions, and includes medical protocols, treatment recommendations and medical references.
  • eConsults: providers may contact Mayo Clinic specialists for second opinions on specific patient cases when they believe additional input will benefit their patients.
  • eBoards: live videoconferences that enable medical teams to virtually review and discuss complex cases with a team of Mayo Clinic specialists and providers from Mayo Clinic Care Network health systems. 
  • Healthcare consulting: access to Mayo's experience, knowledge and subspecialty expertise to achieve clinical, operational and business goals.

"This collaboration will provide our medical staff with access to the tools and services of the Mayo Clinic, enabling them to share medical knowledge and collaborate in ways that benefit our patients," says Dan Breece, D.O., vice president, Physician Services and chief medical officer, Memorial Health System. "It brings tools, resources, research and treatment recommendations to our patients, knowing they have the minds of our providers and the experts of Mayo Clinic working on their behalf. It will transform the delivery of care in our region."

Staff at Memorial Health will also have access to Mayo’s educational materials that are designed for patients. The acquisition will also give employees access to opportunities for professional development and continuous medical education, the news release says.
