The road to the MSHSL State Boys Basketball Tournament has been laid out for 19 Class A and 15 Class AA southeastern Minnesota teams.

Section 1A is loaded with some very good basketball teams.  Fifteen of the nineteen teams in the tournament have 11 or more wins.

Games begin Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Two-time defending State Class A State Champions Hayfield finished the regular season with a 21-6 record and are the #3 seed behind #2 Spring Grove (25-1) and #1 Goodhue (22-3).

Faribault Bethlehem Academy (14-10) is #12 seed and opens at #5 Fillmore Central (16-9).  The Cardinals swept #7 seed Randolph (15-10) then split with Class AA teams Triton and Blooming Prairie in Gopher Conference action.

Kenyon-Wanamingo (18-8) is #6 seed.  The Knights will play #11 Schaeffer Academy of Rochester (16-10) in the Castle.

There are three play-in games although the MSHSL prefers to call them Round 1 contests.

#16 Houston (5-21) will entertain #17 Glenville-Emmons (7-19) on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. with the winner going to Goodhue on Thursday.

#15 Mabel-Canton (11-15) hosts #18 Grand Meadow (2-24) with the victor going to Spring Grove.

#19 Leroy-Ostrander (3-23) heads to #14 Wabasha-Kellogg (11-14).  The winner goes to Hayfield Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Other Thursday openers have #8 Rushford-Peterson (14-12) tangling with #9 Lanesboro (17-9).  Winner will likely face Goodhue in Rochester Monday, March 6. 2023 in the Mayo Civic Auditorium.  Tip time is 6:00 p.m.

#4 Lyle-Pacelli (21-5) has #13 Kingsland (13-13) in Lyle.  Winner will play BA/Fillmore Central victor Monday, March 6, 2023, in the Auditorium late game.  7:30 p.m. tip-off.

#7 Randolph (15-10) opens with #10 Southland (15-10).  Winner advances to 6:00 p.m. game Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in the Mayo Civic Auditorium.

Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Championship will be Thursday, March 16, 2023, 6:00 p.m. in Mayo Civic Arena.

Section 1AA top seed is defending champion Lake City (24-1).  The Wildcats only loss was against Class AAA Stewartville 53-41 in Stewartville on January 26, 2023.

The Tigers wait to see who wins between #8 Rochester Lourdes (10-16) and #9 Pine Island (8-18).  Winner goes to Rochester for 6:00 p.m. Arena game Monday, March 6, 2023.

#2 seed Plainview-Elgin-Millville (22-4) opens at home with #15 Dover-Eyota (2-24) Thursday, March 2, 2023, 7:00 p.m.

#7 Zumbrota-Mazeppa (13-13) has #10 Triton (9-17) in the Cougars Den with winner advancing to play PEM game victor on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Arena.

#4 seed Cannon Falls (14-12) will open the Bomber's Hangar to #13 Cotter (9-16) in the opening round with the victor heading to Rochester on Monday, March 6, 2023, to face either #5 LaCrescent (17-9) or #12 Blooming Prairie (9-15) at 7:30 p.m.

#3 Caledonia (14-12) has St. Charles Saints (4-22) marching into the Warriors gym while #6 Chatfield (16-10) entertains #11 Lewiston-Altura (10-16).

Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2023, in the Mayo Civic Auditorium at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Section 1AAtitle tilt is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2023, 8:00 p.m. in the Arena.
