Rochester Man Sentenced for Wild High Speed Chase
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man has been sentenced to 6 months in jail and up to 5 years on probation for a recent high-speed chase and a drug possession conviction.
30-year-old Andrew Berndt was arrested in the early morning hours of October 9th following a chase that began near the Government Center when a police officer noticed him driving erratically on 4th Street Southeast round 2:30 a.m. Berndt that led officers on a chase through a residential neighborhood before he sped out of Rochester on Highway 14 at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour. He was captured after he crashed into a guardrail in Chester and attempted to flee on foot even though he had been injured in the crash. A quantity of marijuana was found in his car, which was involved in a high-speed chase through the same Rochester residential neighborhood in early September. In that case, the pursuing officer broke off the chase, but later identified Berndt as the driver.
