Teen Boy Charged in Shooting of Twin Cities Police Officer

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A teenage boy in the Twin Cities is the latest person to be charged in connection to a shooting of a police officer last month.

On August 11, a Minneapolis Police Officer was following a vehicle that had been reported stolen, was associated with an earlier robbery and had been involved in previous chases with police in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park.

The officer reported hearing gunshots when the squad car crested a hill and felt his arm go numb which made him realize he had been shot. 

The officer then sped away and called for help. Two suspects, identified as 19-year-old Frederick and 20-year-old Nevaeh Page, were arrested on the night of the shooting. 

Davis was charged with second-degree attempted murder while Page is accused of aiding an offender-accomplice after the fact. 

The officer wounded in the incident that was determined to have involved 15 gunshots was discharged several hours after he was taken to the hospital and, at the last report, was recovering at home. 

On Wednesday, police announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy in connection to the shooting. The boy was arrested during a traffic stop in north Minneapolis Tuesday night as part of a multi-law enforcement agency crime disruption effort. 

Police say the teen was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center on his felony warrant for 2nd-degree Attempted Murder and he was held in custody by the judge.   

“Officer Spies was the victim of a brazen ambush by a group of individuals with no regard for the sanctity of a human life,” said Minneapolis Police Chief, Brian O’Hara in a statement.  “While our officer is still recovering from his gunshot wound, I am thankful for the attentiveness of his fellow Minneapolis police officers who continue to put their lives on the line to keep our residents safe.  Their relentless and proactive police work led to this person’s arrest, and we look forward to all involved being held accountable for this outrageous attack before they seriously harm others in our community.”
