Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A collision between an SUV and a bicycle claimed the life of a young girl in Minneapolis over the Labor Day Weekend.

A news release issued Wednesday morning by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says the tragic incident happened around 9 a.m. Monday. The fatality occurred while along a street south of U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

The medical examiner identified the victim of the fatal incident as seven-year-old Penelope Wender Thompson. The young bike rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The autopsy ruled the young girl’s death an accident. The medical examiner found she died of “multiple blunt force injuries due to bicycle versus sport utility vehicle collision.”

The identity of the SUV driver has not been released. The Minneapolis Police Department is the investigating agency for the fatal collision.
