Maplewood, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in a Twin Cities suburb are investigating a deadly hit and run crash involving a pedestrian.

The Maplewood Public Service Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 8:30 Saturday night and found the fatally injured victim on the roadway next to an apartment building about 2 miles north of I-94. The vehicle or possibly vehicles that had hit the pedestrian had left the scene.

Investigators say the hit and run vehicle likely has heavy front end damage. Maplewood Police say a witness indicated a male driving a black sedan may have witnessed the incident. The witness told investigators the motorist stopped briefly and then drove away.

The name of the victim has not been released.
