The Charles E, Gagnon Museum and Sculpture Garden opens a second season of concerts featuring talented young musicians on Saturday, June 25.
Bassoon player Bailey Holmen leads off this year’s Concerts in the Garden with a solo performance of classical works.
Holmen, who studies music performance at the University of Colorado Boulder, will play works from artists including Johan Sebastian Bach, Sir Edward Elgar and Camille Saint-Saens. She will be accompanied by Rochester pianist Glenna Muir. The bassoon is among the largest instruments in the flute family.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the outdoor patio in the Sculpture Garden at the museum, where sculptor Charles E. Gagnon lived and worked. It will be held indoors if weather interferes.
Admission is $12 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.gagnonmuseum.org/team-1 or at the door. The Gagnon Museum is located at 2500 4th St. SW in Rochester. Parking is primarily at curbs on surrounding streets. The museum has a driveway available for dropping off concert Please do not park on neighbor’s lawns.
Five performances of Concerts in the Garden continue into October. They will include appearances by young local musicians playing the harp, flute, and violin. This year’s series also offers a preview reading from an opera being written by a Rochester teacher and composer Robert Gardner.
The next mini-concert will feature vocalist Hannah Roth and harpist Anna Loegering on July 23.
