MISBEHAVING GOATS REPORT -

Goodhue County: Sheriff's Department Reports NO Misbehaving Goats This Week.

"Sorry- still no misbehaving goats this week. I think they all know better now."

Each week the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office publishes the highlights of the week on their Facebook page...and I share them here with my thoughts ON the highlights! And, along the way, maybe we all learn something about how hard and sometimes weird the day of Sheriff's Deputy can be.

Leon TWP- Report of a vehicle that was possibly shining deer. The suspects had flashlights taped to their uncased crossbows but claimed they were not hunting. The suspects were identified and evidence was gathered. This case has been forwarded to the DNR.

The flashlights...just there for looks. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Under Watch Your FIngers Friends

Kenyon TWP- Reporting party said they put money down on fertilizer in 2020 that they have not yet received. Contact was made with the seller- they ran out of fertilizer so they were unable to deliver. We can’t wait for the witty comments on this one. Please remember any swear words in the comment automatically hides the whole comment so nobody will see how funny you are.

Perfection!

Under It Is ALWAYS A Scam

Pine Island- Fraud was reported when a victim gave out personal information over the phone to a male who claimed a vehicle registered in their name was found with drugs and other illegal items in it. This is always a scam. If you are not sure if you are being scammed, please hang up and call 911. We can let you know if it is a scam or not.

Under Good Solid Frolf Advice

Pine Island- Damage to property was reported. Somebody damaged 2 of the disc golf nets by breaking the posts they are on. If you have a temper, disc golf is not for you. Breaking the posts is not an appropriate way to vent your frustrations.

Does This Mean They Like You Or No?

Pine Island- a house was egged.

Under Wait For It...

Kenyon TWP- A vehicle (with a person in it) was parked in someone’s driveway when it burst into flames. The driver said he ran out of gas so he parked his vehicle in that spot. He thought it was a road. The next thing he knew, he woke up in a ditch and his car was on fire.

I did NOT expect that ending!

  • Red Wing- Deputies assisted another agency that was responding to a driving complaint about a vehicle that kept driving into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was located and the driver was arrested for DWI.
  • Red Wing- Deputies assisted another agency that was responding to a driving complaint about a male sleeping in a vehicle at a stoplight. The male was found to be intoxicated and arrested for DWI. Two weeks in a row with someone sleeping at a stop light.

TRAFFIC STOPS:

  • Hay Creek- A citation was issued to a driver that was texting and driving. Yessss!
  • Dennison- A citation was issued to a driver for going 72 MPH in a 55 MPH Zone.
  • Red Wing- a driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and expired registration.
  • HWY 52- Multiple citations were issued to drivers going 75 MPH +
  • Red Wing- Another agency arrested a driver on a warrant. Another driver showed up later to pick up the vehicle from the side of the road. That driver had a revoked driving status and had no proof of insurance. He was located in the vehicle by Deputies and issued a citation for both offenses. Not quite as ridiculous as when a drunk person drives to the jail to pick up their friend who got a DWI but close. Right? Or last week when a drunk guy came to pick up his car from the tow lot...and it was in the tow lot because of a crash caused by drinking and driving.
  • Stanton TWP- A driver was stopped for going 101 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. His excuse was that he was late for his Tee time. This might be the worst excuse we have ever heard. Maybe they mean Tea Time. Was the drive a rabbit?

FYI- Motorists stopped at 20 mph over the speed limit face double the fine, and those ticketed traveling more than 100 mph can lose their license for six months.

  • Welch- A male on a motorcycle was stopped for speeding. When he tried to get his ID out of his pocket, a bag of meth fell out of his pocket and onto the ground next to the Deputy's foot. The driver was also found to have a cancelled-IPS (inimical to public safety) driving status. He also had a warrant. He was arrested for the meth and for the warrant.
  • The driver’s friend decided to stop his vehicle and see how his friend was doing which made him become a part of the traffic stop. He was found to not have a license or insurance. A dog sniff of the vehicle led to the dog hitting on the vehicle and a search produced trace amounts of drugs and drug paraphernalia. His vehicle was towed and he was given a courtesy ride. Charges are pending for him. In cases like these, you cannot make it better for your friend. Ever.

What Is "Inimical To Public Safety"?

According to Minneapolis DWI Lawyer Douglas T. Kans of the Kans Law Firm

Inimical to public safety is a label that refers to those drivers in Minnesota who have been found to be unable to safety control their vehicle without presenting a serious danger to others. Licenses that are canceled as inimical to public safety occur when that the driver has been deemed to pose too great a risk to others to allow him or her to continue driving.

When is a license canceled as inimical to public safety?

Are licenses in Minnesota canceled as inimical to public safety after a first offense?

Rarely, if ever. In Minnesota, most licenses canceled as inimical to public safety happen after a person’s third DWI conviction.
