The mall was built after the Minnesota Twins and Vikings moved to a new stadium, which opened up the former stadium site for development. After a selection process, construction began in 1989, and when the mall opened, it featured 330 stores and employed over 10,000 people.

Today, the mall has more than 500 stores, attracts about 40 million visitors each year, and is responsible for contributing nearly $2 billion to Minnesota’s economy.
