Speakeasy Bars in Rochester, Minnesota
We have a few speakeasy-style bars in Rochester and they all have their own flair.
The one that's been around the longest is Bitter and Pour in downtown Rochester.
There will be a door with the name, don't worry, they don't make it THAT difficult to find. Go down the stairs and from there, it's up to you to solve the puzzle and figure out how to get in! Heads up, Bitter and Pour doesn't serve any food.
Another speakeasy-style bar in town is the 1928 Cocktail Lounge.
This place is the newest of its kind in Rochester. It's about Bebap, which is downtown. Once you enter Bebap you'll see a staircase going up to the second level, that's where you'll go for fun cocktails and small bites!
Thai Pop's Speakeasy Reopens in Rochester
And now, our third speakeasy is back open! Thai Pop opened their own speakeasy a few years ago.
They serve great cocktails and small bites and it's called Shhhh... We Don't Talk About It, or just Shhhh for short.
Last weekend they officially reopened for business!
Why did they close? I'm not 100% sure, actually. Each spring, they close for the summer, and then reopen in mid-October. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the room being super small and underground so maybe the airflow isn't awesome in the summer heat.
Shhhh is open Fridays and Saturdays, 5-11 PM, and are typically open until the end of March, then they'll close again for the season.
If you want to get into Shhhh, you need to talk to the host at Thai Pop. From there, they'll take you down to the bar. It's so cool!
The room is quite small, so if you want to guarantee a spot, you'll want to make a reservation ahead of time.
