If you're looking for a new job, these positions with the state of Minnesota are open right now-- and they pay pretty well, too!

The state of Minnesota employs a lot of people

The state of Minnesota is the largest employer in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, with over 50,000 employees on the payroll hard at work in more than 100 state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges, and universities across the state.

The benefits of working for the state of Minnesota are pretty sweet, too. The state's website describes them like this: Our exceptional benefits balance four key elements that make life and work meaningful: health and wellness, financial well-being, professional development, and work/life balance. These benefits, along with your salary, make up your total compensation.

There are a lot of open positions with the state of Minnesota right now

And right now, there are over 500 positions the state of Minnesota is looking to fill. But THESE six positions are a little different: They're state commissioners, who work on the cabinet of Gov. Walz. You've probably heard of some these names, like Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm, who's retiring. Or Education Commissioner Heather Mueller, and Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington, who the Star Tribune said were choosing "not to seek reappointment" in Gov. Walz's second term, which starts in January.

So, yes, there are six total state commissioner openings right now, including the top jobs at the departments of Health, Education, Public Safety, Revenue, and Labor and Industry, as well as the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB).

And check out just how much state commissioners in Minnesota earn:

And all state commissioners are paid salaries that are at least $140,000 a year! That's not too bad, although some of them ARE fairly high-profile, and come with some big responsibilities. If you think YOU have what it takes to be a state commissioner, you'll want to contact the state (gov.appointments@state.mn.us) and request an application.

Here's what Gov. Walz said about applying, according to the Star Tribune:

"Get your packets in, folks," Walz said in the Star Tribune story. "This idea that there's a broad pool out there that maybe doesn't know if they can be involved in this, I would encourage people to put their names in."
