Two Cars Sink On One Minnesota Lake This Week
Not one, but two vehicles have already taken an unplanned dive into a Minnesota lake this week, despite repeated warnings about dangerous ice conditions.
Minnesota’s weather has been on a wild rollercoaster lately - frigid and unforgiving one week, downright springlike the next. Some golf courses are even opening up, which tells you everything you need to know about just how warm it’s been. In fact, this week’s balmy temps shattered a 100+ year old weather record.

Even with the obvious signs that ice conditions are going downhill fast, some drivers are still rolling the dice in the Land of 10,0000 not-so-frozen Lakes. Technically, 11,842 lakes according to the Minnesota DNR, but who's counting?
Minnesota’s ice has already claimed a couple of vehicles this week, including two that sank on the same lake. The first incident happened Monday, January 27th when a driver tried to cross pressure ridges on Lake Minnetonka. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go well.
Hoping to prevent more vehicles from meeting a similar fate, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office placed electric warning signs at multiple boat launches on Tuesday the 28th.
But just hours later, another vehicle went through the ice in Echo Bay, proving once again that Mother Nature doesn't care about your shortcuts. The sheriff’s office made it clear: “We can’t stress this enough; ice is never 100% safe!”
