Chalk up another first-place ranking for the Land of 10,000 Lakes-- this time when it comes to safety.

That's the word from the gang over at WalletHub, who just published a new survey that looked at 50 different areas of public safety in each state-- from assaults per capita to unemployment rate, to total loss amounts from climate disasters. They then ranked all 50 (plus the District of Columbia) and guess which state came in at number-one...

Yeah, that's us here in Minnesota. The WalletHub survey was released just as June (which is, among other things, National Safety Month) gets underway, and it looks at all kinds of events that could make your state less safe-- from terrorist attacks, traffic crashes, and natural disasters like earthquakes and wildfires.

And, we (luckily) haven't had very many of those things happen here in Minnesota in the last year. In fact, Minnesota ranked first in the category of road safety, and in the top ten for other categories including personal and residential safety, financial safety, and workplace safety, which all combines to make us the safest state in the U.S.

Meanwhile, my home state of Wisconsin is waaaay down the list, coming in at number-17 overall, and our neighbors to the south down in Iowa were ranked 7th. You can read the entire WalletHub Safest States survey HERE.
