RICE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a 29-year-old central Minnesota man was hit and killed by a semitrailer while he was standing outside his own rig along a highway.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Jeffrey Skroch of Rice was driving a semitrailer north on state Highway 25 in Benton County when he stopped the vehicle partially in the lane. State Patrol says it appears that Skroch was standing outside of his truck when it was hit from behind by another semitrailer driven by a 31-year-old Wisconsin man.

Skroch was pronounced dead at the scene. The other semitrailer driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren't considered to be life-threatening.

Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jesse Grabow says it's unclear why Skroch got out of his truck.
