Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester school has become the first in the city to close because of COVID-19.

Rochester Montessori School has decided to close effective Monday, March 16 through April 5th.

Head of school Deborah Summerson says it’s a proactive decision, not because of any known cases involving students or staff. Summerson says the decision was made out of concern the virus will make its way to Rochester.

She says it’s still a “fluid situation” and the planned closure period could be extended, depending on the COVID-19 situation. She says at this point in time, no decision has been made on how the missed class time will be made up.

The private school has an enrollment of 205 children, ages 18 months to 8th grade.
