Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced to one year on probation in a child abuse case.

56-year-old Ya-Juan Yu entered into a plea agreement and admitted to a gross misdemeanor charge of contributing to the need for child protection or services. Two other charges, including a felony assault charge were dismissed.

Yu was arrested in late August after Rochester police responded to some 911 calls concerning a woman pushing a young child in a stroller in the Peace Plaza area. The callers reported seeing the woman hitting the child and shaking the stroller as she moved through the downtown.

Officers arrived to find citizens and a Mayo Clinic security employee intervening and discovered the 16-month-old girl was unresponsive. The girl was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where she was checked out and later turned over to her parents.
