Love it or hate it, social media is a part of the culture nowadays. It can be used to keep in touch with family and friends, share pictures, even make plans for family holidays (as my family does). It is also a great tool to get information shared to a large audience, almost immediately.

The Albert Lea Police Department shared this on their Facebook page:

Residents of Albert Lea:

We have received an increased amount of damage to property reports, thefts, burglaries, and other related reports. Please be on the lookout for suspicious activity and don’t be hesitant to call 911. We need your help to be the eyes of our community. No neighborhood is free from crimes of opportunity. Please be vigilant and lock your doors and keep valuables locked or hidden from plain sight. Report suspicious activity immediately when you observe it, or sooner rather than later. Thank you!

It is a very timely reminder to all, not just the citizens of Albert Lea. Be aware of your surroundings and keep your vehicles locked, with any valuables out of sight. Doing this can decrease the so-called "crimes of opportunity." It is also a good idea to talk to your neighbors, especially if you are planning to be out of town, another set of eyes to help watch your home.
