Camera Captures Suspected Rochester-Area Catalytic Converter Thief

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is hoping surveillance footage will help lead to an arrest for a recent Rochester-area catalytic converter theft.

Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin said a business in the 3400 block of Marion Rd. Southeast reported the theft around 9:30 Monday morning. Surveillance cameras at the scene show a vehicle suspected of being associated with the theft driving in the area of the business Sunday afternoon. 

Parkin said a review of the footage shows a red Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up with a missing rear driver’s side window at the property at the time of the suspected theft. The footage shows a subject getting out of the vehicle. 

The sound of a cutting tool was then picked up by the surveillance system. The person then returned to the truck and left the property. 

Employees the next day went to the area where the truck was seen and found one of the work trucks was missing the emission control device, Parkin said. The cost to replace the car part is estimated to be several hundred dollars. 

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who recognizes the truck or has knowledge of the reported theft to contact the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office at 507-328-6800. Callers can remain anonymous.
