St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Flu activity in Minnesota ramped up considerably last week, with the State Department of Health raising its rating of overall influenza activity statewide from "local" to "regional."

The Minnesota Department's weekly report shows there has been another report of a death due to flu-related complications. It was the third reported since the beginning season. The median of the patients who died was 91 and officials note there have not been any pediatric flu deaths reported this season.

The number of hospitalizations blamed on the flu rose from 28 the previous week to a preliminary total of 41 last week. The report also shows there were 7 probable outbreaks in schools and 1 confirmed outbreak in a long-term care facility.
