The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner identified the body found in a retention pond near Byron City Hall Monday evening as that of 39-year-old Wade Gordon Jr. He was reported missing earlier this month and was last seen leaving his job in Byron on foot during the early-morning hours of July 7.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin revealed more information Wednesday morning regarding the tip that led to the discovery of Gordon Jr.’s body. He said the citizen who reported the suspicious noise that led deputies to the retention pond reported hearing it on the night Gordon Jr. was last seen.

Parkin said he couldn’t further describe the noise at this time, but he did say the sound was loud enough to wake the person up. He says the tipster approached a deputy with the information in person on Monday.

The preliminary autopsy results indicate there were no signs of foul play, however investigators are still awaiting the final results, Parkin said. Gordon Jr.’s cause of death has not yet been determined.
