Man Admits to Attempting to Disarm Rochester Police Officer at St. Mary’s Hospital
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- There’s been a plea agreement reached in a case involving a man accused of attempting to disarm a Rochester Police officer at St. Mary’s Hospital last year.
The criminal complaint in the case says officers responded to St. Mary’s hospital on the report of a disturbance involving a man identified as 22-year-old Jake Jonsgaard last November. He was reported to have been making statements about killing people, taking a firearm from a Rochester Police officer and shooting himself if he were to encounter law enforcement.
The complaint says officers saw Jonsgaard slap a staffer as they responded to the disturbance. Officers and Mayo Clinic Security attempted to detain Jonsgaard to allow medication administration but Jonsgaard resisted, got his hand on an officer’s holstered firearm but was unable to remove it, according to the charges.
Jonsgaard previously pleaded not guilty to charges of felony attempted disarming of a peace officer, obstructing the legal process and fifth-degree assault this past March. Court records indicate Jonsgaard entered into a plea agreement that calls for him to admit to the attempted disarming of a peace officer charge during a pre-trial hearing in Olmsted County Court Thursday morning.
The official terms of the plea agreement have not yet been released. He’s set to be sentenced in October following a pre-sentence investigation.
