Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers responded to the report of an assault in Central Park in the 200 block of 1st Ave. Northwest. The call came in around 1:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Moilanen said the caller gave officers a description of the suspected assailant and his direction of travel. Officers found the suspect, identified 24-year-old Sekouba Kenneah of Rochester, traveling south along 1st Ave.

He raised his arms and got onto the ground once responding officers pulled up alongside him despite not being given any commands to do so, according to the police report. Moilanen said the arresting officers saw blood on Kenneah’s hands and later found him with sunglasses that belonged to the alleged assault and robbery victim.

Officers spoke with the victim, described as a 55-year-old man from Rochester, and several witnesses. They reported the victim was sitting in the park when Kenneah approached him, began “talking trash” and knocked off the man’s hat and sunglasses twice.

Kenneah reportedly then struck the man in the side of his face when he began calling police after picking up his hat and sunglasses for a second time. Witnesses say Keeneah then picked up the man’s sunglasses, stated they were now his and left the area.

Moilanen said the victim lost a tooth and suffered a possible jaw injury as a result of being struck by Kennah. He went to St. Mary’s Hospital for further medical attention.

Moilanen says Keenah was arrested and booked into the Olmsted County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and third-degree assault. He’s awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
