Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin says deputies were dispatched to the call around 10:30 Saturday night. The first 911 call reporting the assault disconnected and a second 911 caller reported an unconscious person moments after the first call.

Deputies arrived at the Von Wald Youth Center in the 4400 block of Bamber Valley Rd. Southwest and found the subject of the assault call, described by Parkin as a 16-year-old boy from Austin, standing outside of the home. Deputies detained the teen and spoke with staff and residents of the home.

Parkin said the individuals in the home reported the teen had become upset and began throwing items at staff and clients. He was also accused of punching the people in the home and throwing a fire extinguisher, which is believed to have narrowly missed a person.

Deputies determined the teen grabbed and smashed the phone that the first 911 caller was using while they were on the line with dispatchers. Parkin said two people in the home were transported to a hospital where they were treated for minor injuries then released.

The teen has been sent to a juvenile detention facility in Anoka County where he is awaiting arraignment. Everyone, including the alleged attacker, was cleared by medical personnel, Parkin said.
