11 Year Old Boy Killed in Car-Bike Crash in Albert Lea
Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - A collision involving a bicycle and a car claimed the life of a young child yesterday in Albert Lea.
A news release issued by the Albert Lea Police Department says 11-year-old Ayden Brackey was riding a bike that collided with a car driven by 89-year-old Viola Matson at an intersection on Bridge Avenue near the east end of Fountain Lake. The crash was reported just before 5:15 PM.
Albert Lea police reported that the child was unresponsive when he was found lying on the roadway, where lifesaving measures were attempted by police officers and a team from Albert Lea Fire and Rescue. The news release says the 11-year-old boy was transported by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Albert Lea and was pronounced dead about half an hour after the deadly incident was first reported.
The Police Department news release says the elderly Albert Lea motorist was traveling south on Bridge Avenue and had a green light when she entered the intersection and collided with the young bicyclist who was headed west on Marshall Street.
She is not expected to face any charges.
