Renville, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in western Minnesota are investigating the apparent drowning deaths of two people that occurred in separate incidents Sunday afternoon.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office says the first of the deadly incidents was reported just before 3 PM on the Minnesota River near Morton. A news release says a 911 caller reported spotting a body caught in a logjam in the river. Deputies from the Renville and Redwood County Sheriff's Offices and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources responded and recovered the body of an adult male. An autopsy was ordered to determine the identity of the victim as well as the cause and manner of death.

Officials say deputies were still involved in recovering the body of the first victim when another 911 caller phoned the Renville County Sheriff's Office and reported a person was drowning several miles upstream from the site of the first incident in an area several miles northwest of Redwood Falls.

The news release says emergency responders were told that a young male was swimming in the river when he began to struggle and went underwater around 5:25 PM. A search effort was launched and a little over two hours later the young man was pulled from the river and attempts were made to resuscitate him. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Redwood Falls. His name has not yet been released.
