Minnesota Inmate Sentenced for Trying to Obtain Meth in Prison
Sandstone, MN (KROC-AM News)- An inmate at a federal prison in Minnesota will spend two more years behind bars following a conviction for attempting to obtain contraband in prison.
U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Lugar announced the sentencing Thursday. The inmate is being housed at the federal prison in Sandstone.
Court documents indicate 39-year-old Nickolas Mihelic attempted to obtain methamphetamine once in February 2022 and a second time in March 2022. An individual outside of prison would mail Mihelic pieces of paper soaked liquid meth. Corrections officials seized the letters on both occasions, Lugar said.
Mihelic pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to obtain contraband in prison last September. The case was the result of an investigation by the FBI and Federal Bureau of Prisons.
