Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -- The meteorological winter is over and the National Weather Service says it was the 11th warmest and 5th wettest on record in the Rochester area.

The average temperature for the meteorological winter, which runs from December through February, was 3.9 degrees warmer than normal at 22.4 degrees. The warmest temperature of the winter was 52 degrees on February 27th, while the coldest was -21 degrees on January 18th.

The precipitation total over the three months was 4.61 inches, which was about 1.7 inches above normal. The vast majority of the precipitation fell in December when the city saw 3.21 inches, of which 13.2 inches came down as snow. That ended up being close to half of the 30 inch total for the entire season, which was about 3 inches below normal.

The highest single day snowfall total was 6.8 inches on December 28th.
