I absolutely love getting out in nature and hiking, kayaking, and just exploring in general. Nature is just so amazing! Plus, it's really good for you mentally and physically to get outside.
If you're trying to learn new things about the nature around you or if you're trying to get kids excited about nature, then a trip to a local nature center is a must.
Nature centers provide so much information about the area you're in, including the different plants and animals. They also offer different classes and sometimes guided hikes.

I've accumulated a list of different nature centers in our area for you to explore. Each is unique to their respective area, they offer different programs throughout the year, and are great places to spend an afternoon or a whole day.

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center - Lanesboro
Eagle Bluff is a massive center in Lanesboro. They have programs that are offered year-round, summer camps, plus an outdoor high ropes course!
Houston Nature Center - Houston
Over in Houston, MN, you'll find the Houston Nature Center. Inside, you'll find the educational exhibit area. Outside, there's a one-acre 'natural' playground plus trails to explore.
Jay C Hormel Nature Center - Austin
Jay C. Hormel, yes, of THE Hormel family, started what is now the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center back in 1927 when he planted the first of more than 200,000 trees on the property. Now, the nature center is over 500 acres of prairie, forests, and wetlands. They have some super cool classes, and they even have a planetarium!
Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo - Byron
The nature center at Oxbow Park has a really nice indoor area to learn about the plants and animals around Byron. There are plenty of trails to explore, too, but on top of that, they have an outdoor zoo called Zollman Zoo. That's always a really fun visit.
Quarry Hill Nature Center - Rochester
Another really nice nature center, this time in Rochester, is the Quarry Hill Nature Center. You can see and learn about different animals, plus they have a nice bird-watching area. Outside, there are plenty of trails to hike.
River Bend Nature Center - Faribault
In Faribault, you'll find the River Bend Nature Center along the Straight River. Learn about the nature in the area and then hit the trails to do some exploring. They also offer programs throughout the year.
