Fridley, MN)  -- (MNN) - A man convicted of murder is in custody following a standoff in Fridley.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says officers had been searching for Eugene Boos for several weeks because of a parole violation.  He spent 17 years in prison for stabbing a man to death in Minneapolis 20 years ago.

Police say he was located yesterday with another person, barricaded inside an apartment on Island Drive.  He claimed to have a gun and issuing threats to police. Officials say the officers involved in the standoff shot and wounded Boos when he came out of the residence holding what appeared to be a handgun.

He went back inside and was finally removed over five hours later when a SWAT team entered the apartment.
