According to a Cannon Falls news release from earlier this morning, a man was taken to the hospital after completing a 3 county crime spree which began with an alleged armed carjacking June 17, 2020, in Minneapolis, an alleged assault of a small child in Cannon Falls, and ending after a vehicle pursuit went into Dakota County.

The Cannon Falls Police and the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the assault of a small child. After arriving, an officer who spoke to the caller was advised that after an argument over keys the suspect pushed a small child. As the officer was going to the suspect's residence they observed a rear-motion light being activated and a car leaving the residence. The caller observed that the vehicle was being driven by the suspect and informed the officer. Cannon Falls police then left the scene and began to follow the suspect who was already several blocks ahead.

The suspect turned onto  Northbound Highway 52 and continued to accelerate. The officer in pursuit at this point could only see the suspects taillights. According to the release as the suspect approached Dakota County Road 86 the suspect pulled in front of a semi and the officer lost sight of the vehicle. The officer continued the pursuit past County Road 86 and soon realized the vehicle he was looking for was no longer traveling North on Highway 52. The officer ended the pursuit and turned around.

As the officer was heading South on Highway 52 he observed the semi pulled over on the shoulder near Dakota County Road 86 and went to check to see if the suspect's vehicle damaged the semi.

The driver informed the officer that the suspects vehicle attempted to exit at County Road 86, but had lost control which caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and stop.

While investigating the crash, the officer learned that the vehicle the suspect was driving had been stolen during an alleged armed carjacking on June 17 in Minneapolis. The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Minneapolis Police were informed of the vehicle being found and took custody of the vehicle.

The news release states that the investigation of the assault and fleeing is ongoing and the results of the investigation will be sent to the Goodhue County Attorney's Office for formal charges. The suspect was not named in the release as they were not arrested or charged at the time of the release.

Anyone with any information on any of the above-alleged crimes is asked to contact the Cannon Falls Police Department at 507-263-2278.

Responding to the crash were the Minnesota State Patrol, along with local ambulance and fire departments.
