A traffic control light it will be

The Rochester City Council voted last night in favor of a traffic signal control system at the intersection

of 16th street and Mayowood Road southwest. The city Public Works staff had recommended installing a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection, citing safety reasons and lower costs. Most of the residents in the area favored a traffic light system.

The estimated cost of the traffic light system is around $2.25 million, $500,000 more than a roundabout. Staff will now proceed with a design of the project. Work on the project is expected to begin in about a year.
