Another Foot Added To Rochester Area Frost Depth
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The recent streak of very cold weather in the Rochester area added nearly another foot to the frost depth.
The latest information from the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation shows frost was detected at nearly 50 inches.
The frost depth was measured at 38 inches two weeks ago, just before the polar vortex arrived. That's when Rochester Public Utilities issued an advisory about the danger of frozen water lines, asking residents to consider monitoring the temperature of their tap water.
Most water service lines are buried six feet or more between the street and a house or building.
The local frost depth was measured at six feet at one point in 2014.
