Warriors get 50th win

UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors remain on pace to break the NBA record for victories in a season.

The Warriors improved to 50-5 and won for the 13th time in 14 games by downing Atlanta, 102-92. Stephen Curry hit five 3-pointers and finished with 36 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Klay Thompson also drained five treys in scoring 27 points.

The Warriors are the fastest team to 50 wins, doing it in just 55 games. The 1995-96 Chicago Bulls needed 56 games to win their 50th before they finished a league-record 72-10.

In other NBA action:

— Reggie Jackson scored 23 points and the Detroit Pistons took advantage of a poor shooting night by LeBron James to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-88. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 19 points for the Pistons, who saw an 18-point, fourth-quarter lead shrink to six before they ended the Cavs' five-game winning streak. James scored just 12 points on 5 of 18 shooting, one night after Anthony Davis torched Detroit for an NBA season-high 59 points.

— The Clippers crushed Phoenix 124-84 in Los Angeles as J.J. Redick scored a game-high 22 points in just over 25 minutes. Chris Paul delivered 16 points and 14 assists in helping the Clippers deal the Suns their 12th consecutive loss.

— Kyle Lowry had a triple double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in Toronto's 122-95 rout of the Knicks in New York. DeMar DeRozan also had 22 points and Jonas Valanciunas finished with 20 as the Raptors won for the 16th time in 19 games to extend their lead in the Atlantic Division to 5 1/2 games over Boston.

— The Celtics were 124-122 losers at Minnesota as Karl-Anthony Towns contributed game highs of 28 points and 13 rebounds. Gorgui Dieng chipped in 17 points and 12 boards to help the Timberwolves win for just the fourth time in 12 games.

— Goran Dragic led Miami's 101-93 overtime win against Indiana, finishing with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Hassan Whiteside provided 19 points and 18 rebounds as the Heat earned their third straight win to stretch their lead in the Southeast Division to two games over the Hawks.

— Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple double of 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to carry Milwaukee over the Los Angeles Lakers 108-101. Khris Middleton was among the seven Bucks to score in double figures, finishing with 18.

ATLANTA (AP) — Center Anderson Varejao has officially joined the Golden State Warriors after passing a physical.

The 12-year veteran agreed to a contract with the defending champs on Sunday.

Golden State waived forward Jason Thompson to make room for Varejao.

Elsewhere around the NBA:

— The Detroit Pistons have rescinded a three-team, three-player trade with Philadelphia and Houston because at least one of the players involved was not cleared medically. The move means the Pistons will get back Joel Anthony and a protected, first-round pick in this year's draft.

— The Knicks have signed guard Jimmer Fredette to a 10-day contract. The former college player of the year has spent most of the season with New York's Developmental League team after spending time in the NBA with Sacramento and New Orleans.

Hurricanes hold off Cavaliers

UNDATED (AP) — The 12th-ranked Miami Hurricanes have taken over second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Davon Reed scored 21 points and the Hurricanes rebounded from Saturday's 25-point loss at North Carolina by beating third-ranked Virginia 64-61. Reed hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds left for the final margin before London Perrantes' 40-footer bounced off the backboard, allowing Miami to move a half-game ahead of the Cavaliers.

Virginia erased a 10-point deficit in the second half and led 48-47 before the Hurricanes rallied to improve to 11-4 in the conference.

Malcolm Brogdon was the lone Cavalier to score in double figures, finishing with 25 points.

In the other top-25 final:

— Jaysean Paige scored a career-high 34 points and 14th-ranked West Virginia avoided its first three-game losing streak in two years by beating No. 17 Iowa State 97-87. Tarik Phillip also reached a career high for points, finishing with 22 as the Mountaineers completed a sweep of the regular-season series from the Cyclones.

— Isaiah Taylor scored 19 points and drained a game-clinching 3-pointer in the final minute to push No. 25 Texas past Kansas State 71-70. Javan Felix had 11 of his 13 points in the first half as the Longhorns improved to 18-11 overall.

T25-POLL AND SCHEDULE

No change at the top of men's poll and big change for the women

UNDATED (AP) — Villanova and Kansas remain the top two teams in this week's AP college basketball poll. The 24-3 Wildcats received 45 first place votes from the 65-member national media panel, with 23-4 Kansas getting the remaining 20.

Oklahoma and Virginia are tied for third and are followed in the top 10 by Xavier, Michigan State, North Carolina, Iowa, Arizona and Maryland.

And for the 200th time Connecticut is the top team in the AP women's poll. The Huskies are followed by Notre Dame, South Carolina, Baylor and Ohio State. The big news of this week's poll is that Tennessee's 31-year run in the Top 25 is over. The Lady Vols' streak of 565 consecutive weeks in the poll began Feb. 17, 1985.

Bautista says he won't haggle on contract

UNDATED (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays slugging outfielder Jose Bautista doesn't plan to spend much time negotiating a new contract this season. In fact, he says he's already let the team know what it will take to keep him beyond 2016.

The 35-year-old Bautista says he's already let the team know what kind of deal he wants once his current package expires this fall. He says he thinks he's proved himself with the Jays and feels he has outperformed his contract. Bautista also warned that he won't be willing to sign for a hometown discount since his recent stats have exceeded his current deal.

The Blue Jays exercised his $14 million option last fall after he hit .250 with 40 home runs, 110 RBIs and a league-leading 110 walks. Bautista has averaged 45 home runs a season the last six years, including a career-high 54 in 2010.

— Commissioner Rob Manfred says he expects an announcement in the next couple of days on two of the first three cases under Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. Manfred would not specify which two cases he was going to rule on first. MLB is investigating New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman, Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig.

— Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu can't say yet whether he will be ready for the start of the season. Ryu missed all of last season following surgery on his left labrum. He was the Dodgers' No. 3 starter the previous two years, going 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA.

— Outfielder Jeff Francoeur is returning to the Atlanta Braves after agreeing to a minor league contract. Francoeur spent the 2015 season with Philadelphia, hitting .258 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 119 games.

— The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with former Milwaukee and Cincinnati pitcher Manny Parra, who was 1-2 with a 3.90 ERA in 40 appearances for the Reds last season. He is 29-41 with a 4.90 ERA in 74 starts and 28 relief appearances in his big league career.

— Former National League MVP Jimmy Rollins has agreed to a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. The three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove shortstop for Philadelphia spent last season with the Dodgers, hitting .224 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs. He was fifth among NL shortstops with a .983 fielding percentage.

—Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was held out of drills and a scheduled bullpen session because of a sore left groin. He said he started to feel sore on Sunday but went through drills and felt fine. Mets manager Terry Collins says the move was "just precautionary."

Capitals pad lead

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Capitals have put even more distance between themselves and the rest of the NHL.

The Caps and Coyotes were tied 1-1 with less than 12 minutes left in regulation until Alex Ovechkin and Mike Richards scored 26 seconds apart to lead Washington to a 3-2 triumph over Arizona. Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov each finished with a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who won for the ninth time in 10 games and improved to 44-10-4.

The Caps top the Eastern Conference by 17 points over Florida, and they pace the Metropolitan Division by 18 points over the New York Rangers. Washington also is 11 points clear of Chicago in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

Kevin Connauton and Connor Murphy scored for the Coyotes, who dropped the opener of a five-game road trip.

Elsewhere on NHL ice:

— San Jose is within three points of the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Kings after Joe Thornton collected two goals and two assists in the Sharks' 6-3 win at St. Louis. Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture also scored twice as the Sharks prevented the Blues from tying Chicago for the Western Conference and Central Division leads.

— Boone Jenner scored twice and Brandon Saad provided the eventual game-winner as Columbus knocked off Boston 6-4. Scott Hartnell added a goal and an assist to help the Blue Jackets keep the Bruins five points behind the Metropolitan Division-leading Florida Panthers.

— Craig Smith had the lone shootout goal and Pekka Rinne finished with 28 saves as Nashville downed the Canadiens 2-1 in Montreal. Viktor Arvidsson and Brendan Gallagher traded first-period goals before the Predators moved one point ahead of Colorado for seventh in the West.

NHL-TRANSACTIONS

Sharks, Leafs swap

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks have made a move as they attempt to catch the Pacific Division-leading Log Angeles Kings, acquiring defenseman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs receive second-round picks in 2017 and 2018, along with forward Raffi Torres.

Polak and Spaling are solid players and strong penalty-killers whose contracts expire after the season. Torres will remain with the Sharks' AHL affiliate in San Jose.

The rebuilding Maple Leafs currently own 29 picks for the next three NHL drafts.

In other NHL moves:

— The Nashville Predators have signed forward Colton Sissons to a three-year contract worth $1.875 million. The 22-year old has a goal and an assist in 19 games with the Predators this season. Sissons was a second-round pick and the 50th overall selection in the 2012 entry draft.

NFL-MOVES

Jets cut Cromartie again

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Jets have released cornerback Antonio Cromartie in a move that will save the team $8 million in salary cap space. The decision marks the second time in three years that the Jets have cut Cromartie, who was re-signed last offseason after a year in Arizona.

In other NFL news:

— The Indianapolis Colts have released linebackers Jonathan Newsome and Andy Studebaker. Newsome was arrested last week on charges of marijuana possession. Studebaker re-joined the Colts in mid-December and played primarily on special teams.

— Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has agreed to a five-year contract. He joined the team as a free agent in 2014 and was entering the final year of that contract. The 28-year-old Jenkins has led the Eagles in tackles, passes defensed and interceptions the past two seasons.

— The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed punter Drew Butler, who has averaged 42.5 yards per kick while playing in 31 of the team's 32 games the last two seasons. His 34 punts inside the 20 during the 2014 season were tied for most in the NFL.

— Former Green Bay Packers defensive back Mike C. McCoy has died at age 62. McCoy played his entire eight-year NFL career with Green Bay after being drafted in the third round in 1976 from Colorado, registering 13 interceptions and five fumble recoveries. The Packers said Monday in a blog post that McCoy was diagnosed with dementia in the last decade.
