LeBron is sharp after one-game respite

UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers have padded their lead in the NBA's Eastern Conference race.

LeBron James had 33 points and Tristan Thompson made two huge plays in the final minute as the Cavs got past Indiana 100-96. James shot 14-for-22 after sitting out Sunday's loss to Washington. Thompson provided the tiebreaking layup and blocked a shot by George Hill with 18 seconds left.

Kyrie Irving chipped in 22 points and Thompson had 14 as the Cavaliers moved 2 1/2 games ahead of Toronto for the conference lead.

Also in the NBA:

— Russell Westbrook had a triple-double of 20 points, 15 assists and 13 rebounds in Oklahoma City's 131-116 win at Sacramento. The Thunder had three other players with over 20 points as Kevin Durant finished with 27, Enes Kantor had 23 and Dion Waiters added 22.

— Jamal Crawford came off the bench to score a team-high 26 points as the Clippers held off Brooklyn, 105-95 in Los Angeles. Chris Paul contributed 23 points and 12 assists to the Clippers' second consecutive victory.

— Memphis pulled out a 103-96 triumph at Denver as Zach Randolph scored 22 points, including successive baskets that put the Grizzlies ahead 94-89 with 4:01 left. Matt Barnes added 16 points and Mario Chalmers 15 for the Grizzlies, who scored 30 points off 20 Nuggets turnovers.

— Jae Crowder had 22 points and the Boston Celtics extended their home win streak to 11 with a 100-95 victory over Utah. Isaiah Thomas added 18 points and nine assists, while Avery Bradley also provided 18 points for the Celtics.

— Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded his second career triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 11 assists as Milwaukee downed Houston 128-121. Jabari Parker scored a career-high 36 points and Khris Middleton added 30 to help the Bucks overcome Dwight Howard's 30 points and 13 boards.

— Washington picked up its sixth victory in eight games as John Wall scored 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter of the Wizards' 116-108 victory over Philadelphia. Marcin Gortat added 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds to help the Wizards deal the 76ers their ninth straight loss.

NBA-INJURIES

Memphis big man out

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Grizzlies forward-center Brandan Wright is out indefinitely after an MRI found a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. This is the same knee the 6-foot-10 Wright had surgery on in December after soreness had sidelined him since Nov. 7. Wright is averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17.7 minutes over 12 games this season.

In other NBA news:

— Cavaliers point guard Mo Williams will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks with an injured left knee. He's been bothered by soreness in his knee for much of the season. Williams did not travel with the team for weekend losses at Toronto and Washington.

TOP MEN'S BASKETBALL-SCHEDULE

Kansas rips Texas

UNDATED (AP) — The Kansas Jayhawks had two reasons to celebrate on Monday. The Jayhawks reclaimed the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press men's basketball rankings for the second time this season and capped the day by clinching the outright Big 12 championship.

Kansas hit 11 3-pointers and led by 24 at halftime before completing an 86-56 rout of No. 23 Texas. Perry Ellis had 20 points for the Jayhawks, who have won at least a share of the conference title for 12 straight seasons. Frank Mason III added 14 points as Kansas improved to 26-4 overall, 14-3 in the conference.

Javan Felix scored 13 points for Texas, which is 0-9 all-time against top-ranked teams.

In other top-25 finals:

— Brice Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds in eighth-ranked North Carolina's 75-70 win over Syracuse. Joel Berry II added 13 points and two key late free throws for the Tar Heels, who saw a 13-point, second-half lead shrink to one before they improved to 24-6.

— Georges Niang had 17 points and 10 rebounds in his last home game for Iowa State, helping the 21st-ranked Cyclones earn a 58-50 win against Oklahoma State. Abdel Nader scored 19 points and Jameel McKay added six and 10 rebounds as Iowa State clinched its fifth straight winning season in conference play.

Kansas and UConn stand on top

UNDATED (AP) — Kansas is back atop the Associated Press Top-25 poll following back-to-back victories last week and Villanova's loss to Xavier. The Jayhawks received 63 of the 65 first place votes, with second ranked Michigan State getting the remaining two. The 25-4 Jayhawks were on top of the poll for two weeks in January.

Villanova fell from the top spot to No. 3, followed by Virginia and Xavier.

This week's second five consists of Oklahoma, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon and West Virginia.

Connecticut remains a unanimous No. 1 in this week's women's poll. Notre Dame, South Carolina, Baylor and Maryland complete the first five.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-VANDERBILT FINED

Costly celebration

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Vanderbilt has been fined $100,000 by the Southeastern Conference after fans stormed the court Saturday following the Commodores' 74-62 victory over Kentucky.

Fines start at $50,000 for a first offense and go up to $100,000 for a second offense and up to $250,000 for subsequent offenses.

Vanderbilt fans also stormed the court after a men's basketball victory over No. 1 Florida in 2007.

Stars lose again but catch Blackhawks

UNDATED (AP) — The Dallas Stars were able to move into a virtual tie with the Chicago Blackhawks for the NHL's Western Conference and Central Division leads on Monday despite falling for the sixth time in seven games.

Stars forward Vernon Fiddler scored with 1:31 left in regulation to tie their game with Detroit, but the Red Wings won it 3-2 on Pavel Datsuk's unassisted, power-play goal at 2:33 of overtime. Andreas Athanasiou scored twice and Jimmy Howard stopped 39 shots as the Wings prevented Dallas from moving one point ahead of Chicago.

The Red Wings passed the Islanders for fifth place in the East and moved within three points of the Atlantic Division lead.

Elsewhere on NHL ice:

— The Tampa Bay Lightning picked up their seventh straight victory and grabbed a share of the Atlantic Division lead as Tyler Johnson scored twice in the second period of a 2-1 win at Toronto. Andrei Vasilevskiy handled 30 shots and blanked the Maple Leafs until Nazem Kadri scored with 2:15 remaining. The Lightning and Panthers each have 78 points, but Florida has a game in hand.

— The New York Rangers won for the fifth time in six games as Derek Stepan scored a short-handed goal with 2:48 remaining to decide a 2-1 triumph over Carolina. Mats Zuccarello notched his 21st goal and Antti Raanta turned back 26 shots to help the Rangers move seven points ahead of the Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

— Pittsburgh is within one point of the Isles after Patric Hornqvist recorded his first career hat trick and collected four points in the Penguins' 6-0 rout of Arizona. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 30 shots in his fifth shutout of the season and 43rd of his career.

— Joe Pavelski scored twice and had an assist in San Jose's 6-2 blowout over the Montreal Canadiens. Joe Thornton and Brent Burns added a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who are within four points of the Pacific Division-leading Kings.

— Brayden Schenn also notched his first NHL hat trick and Claude Giroux had four assists as Philadelphia knocked off Calgary 5-3. Wayne Simmonds scored twice and Michal Neuvirth stopped 29 shots in the Flyers' third consecutive win.

NHL-TRADE DEADLINE DEALS

Deal get in under deadline wire

UNDATED (AP) — There was only a smattering of deals completed in the final hours of the NHL trade deadline.

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired forward Mikkel Boedker from the Arizona Coyotes for veteran forward Alex Tanguay and prospects Connor Bleackley and Kyle Wood. Boedker was third on the Coyotes with 39 points in 62 games, scoring 13 times and collecting 26 assists.

One of the more prominent players dealt before the deadline was defenseman Kris Russell, who was sent by the Calgary Flames to the Dallas Stars for forward prospect Brett Pollock and a conditional 2016 second-round pick. That draft choice becomes a first-rounder if the Stars advance to the Western Conference final and Russell dresses in half the games during the first two rounds.

Also at the trade deadline:

— Anaheim got winger Jamie McGinn from Buffalo for a conditional third-round pick in the 2016 draft and forward Brandon Pirri from Florida for a sixth-round pick. McGinn has 14 goals and 13 assists in 63 games this season with the Sabres.

— The Wild traded goalie Niklas Backstrom and a sixth-round draft pick to the Flames for right wing David Jones.

— The Bruins have acquired defenseman John-Michael Liles from Carolina and winger Lee Stempniak from the Devils.

— New Jersey has traded former first-round pick Stefan Matteau to Montreal for forward Devante Smith-Pelly.

NEW YORK (AP) — Boston forward Zac Rinaldo faces a hearing with the NHL's department of player safety on Tuesday. The league wants to determine whether he faces further disciplinary action for his check to the head of Tampa Bay center Cedric Paquette. Rinaldo was issued a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head in the first period of a 4-1 loss at Boston on Sunday.

NFL-DEALS

Report: A new contract for Brady

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Patriots. The deal will significantly lessen Brady's salary cap hit for the team for 2016.

The 38-year old has said for years that he would like to play into his 40's, and it appears he may get what he wanted.

The agreement was first reported by ESPN.

Elsewhere:

— The Bears have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on top receiver Alshon Jeffery. That leaves him until July 15 to reach a multi-year deal or play next season for $14.6 million. If Jeffery signs with other teams, Chicago would have the right to match any offer he receives. If Jeffery signs elsewhere, that organization would have to send the Bears two first-round draft picks.

New deal for Oakland punter

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have signed punter Marquette King to a long-term contract extension. The deal comes a week before he could have become a free agent.

King originally joined Oakland as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and spent his first season on injured reserve. He has played 48 games the past three seasons and is coming off his best season as a pro as he averaged a 40.7-yard punting average.

MLB-RANGERS

Desmond signs

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Free agent Ian Desmond has signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Texas Rangers after passing his physical. The former All-Star shortstop will start this season in the Rangers' outfield, filling in for the injured Josh Hamilton.

Desmond turned down a $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Nationals after last season.

GOLF-BOHN-HEART ATTACK

Bohn: Lucky to be alive

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Jason Bohn says he's lucky to be alive after suffering a major heart attack Friday at the Honda Classic.

He told SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio that doctors discovered his left anterior descending artery was 99 percent blocked and gave him a "hell of a mulligan" by putting him on the proper blood thinners in time.

Bohn is still hospitalized and has no idea when he'll be able to return to competition.
