UConn rolls into ninth straight Final Four...Oregon State will play UConn in national semifinal

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Unbeaten Connecticut won its 73rd straight game, routing Texas 86-65 to win the Bridgeport Regional and earn a trip to its ninth straight women's Final Four. The Huskies have won a record 22 straight NCAA tournament games as they seek an unprecedented fourth straight women's title.

Morgan Tuck scored 22 points and Breanna Stewart added 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead top-seeded UConn back to the Final Four. Stewart was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the regional.

Two more victories will give coach Geno Auriemma (aw-ree-EH'-muh) an 11th title, moving him past vaunted UCLA men's coach John Wooden for most all-time in college basketball history.

DALLAS (AP) — There is good news and not-so-good news for Oregon State's women's team.

The good news is Oregon State upset top seed Baylor 60-57 to win the Dallas Regional.

The not-so-good news is now Oregon State gets to face powerhouse UConn, the undefeated women's dynasty seeking its unprecedented fourth straight women's championship. Sydney Wiese scored 18 points, including three free throws in the final 34 seconds to ice it for Oregon State.

The Lady Bears finished their season at 36-2 but in a regional final, lost for the third consecutive season.

Washington and Syracuse also meeting in the women's Final Four over the weekend in Indianapolis.

WOODEN AWARD TEAM

Hield leads 10 players for award

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Malcolm Brogdon of Virginia, Buddy Hield of Oklahoma, Brice Johnson of North Carolina, Tyler Ulis of Kentucky and Michigan State's Denzel Valentine are among 10 players chosen for the John R. Wooden Award All-American team.

The others are Grayson Allen of Duke, Kris Dunn of Providence, Perry Ellis of Kansas, Yogi Ferrell of Indiana and Georges Niang (JORG NEE'-ahng) of Iowa State.

OKC runs streak to 8...Spurs B-team wins

UNDATED (AP) — The longest current winning streak in the NBA belongs to the Oklahoma City Thunder, which won its eighth in a row by routing Toronto, 119-100, on the Raptors home floor.

Russell Westbrook had 26 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in his 16th triple-double of the season. Kevin Durant scored 34 points.

Westbrook has seven triple-doubles in March, the most in a month since Michael Jordan had seven in April, 1989. He has the most in a season since Magic Johnson had 17 in 1988-89.

The loss dropped the Raptors three games back of Cleveland in the race for best record in the Eastern Conference.

In other NBA action:

— LaMarcus Aldridge had 31 points and 13 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 101-87 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. San Antonio won despite resting stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who did not make the trip to Memphis.

— Jeff Teague scored 26 points, including two free throws with just over six seconds to play, and the surging Atlanta Hawks fought off a furious Chicago rally, 102-100. The Hawks have won four straight while the Bulls are in danger of missing the playoffs after their fourth straight loss.

— Rodney Hood scored 30 points and the Jazz turned Kobe Bryant's last visit to Utah into the worst loss of his career with a 123-75 victory. That 48-point drubbing matched the Lakers' largest defeat in franchise history.

— — Jrue Holiday scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the New Orleans Pelicans snapped a three-game slide with a 99-91 victory over the New York Knicks.

— Andrew Wiggins scored 32 points, Karl-Anthony Towns added 27 points and 10 boards and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Phoenix Suns 121-116 for their third win in four games.

— Dwayne Wade continued to doom Brooklyn with 30 points and nine assists, Hassan Whiteside finished with a career-high 27 points off the bench and the Miami Heat pulled away to beat the Nets, 110-99.

— Reserve J.J. Barea scored 18 points and had 11 assists to help the Dallas Mavericks halt a three-game skid by beating Denver, 97-88.

— The L.A. Clippers routed Boston 114-90. Austin Rivers, son of Clippers coach Doc Rivers, led his team with 16 off the bench. DeAndre Jordan added 15 points and 13 boards.

— Reserve Allen Crabbe scored 21 points and the Portland Trail Blazers cruised past Sacramento, 105-93.

LeBron gets tonight off

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James is getting the night off when Cleveland hosts Houston tonight.

Coach Tyronn Lue has decided to give his 31-year-old star some rest as the as the Cavaliers start to gear up for the playoffs.

Cleveland has gone 1-2 in games the Cavs rested James.

The Cavs played Saturday, and after facing the Rockets, they won't play again until hosting Brooklyn on Thursday. Cleveland holds a 3-game lead over Toronto for the best record in the Eastern Conference with nine games to play.

Knicks' Anthony involved in odd incident with young fan

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Carmelo Anthony says he was momentarily "shocked" when he felt someone grasping at his thigh as he stood near the top of the key in the final minute of the New York Knicks' 99-91 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans last night.

Turns out it was a young boy who'd somehow slipped through courtside security to give him a hug.

The boy ran onto the court during a stoppage in play with the Knicks on their offensive end. The boy then was shooed back off the court by game official Kevin Cutler.

NHL-SCHEDULE

Lightning tied for first...Sharks clinch playoff berth

UNDATED (AP) — Victor Hedman had a goal and an assist, Ben Bishop made 34 saves and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-0 to move into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Bishop got his first career shutout against the Leafs. It was his sixth shutout of the season and 18th of his career.

The Lightning and Florida Panthers are tied with 93 points. Florida faces Toronto on Tuesday night.

In other hockey:

— Tom Wilson atoned for two penalties by scoring the winning goal early in the third period as the Washington Capitals clinched the NHL's Presidents' Trophy by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-1. The Caps will have home-ice advantage for as long as they are in the playoffs.

— Joe Thornton scored a tiebreaking, power-play goal early in the third period to help send the San Jose Sharks back to the playoffs with a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

— Claude Giroux scored at 4:46 of overtime, and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2, to help their playoff positioning. Philly and Detroit are tied for the final playoff spot in the East.

— Dylan Larkin, Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening scored, and the Detroit Red Wings held off Buffalo, 3-2. The Red Wings pulled within a point of Boston for the third and final guaranteed spot from the Atlantic Division with six games left.

— Blake Comeau had a goal and an assist, and the Colorado Avalanche used a fast start to edge the Nashville Predators 4-3. The Avs scored on three of their first 10 shots.

— Corey Perry scored his 31st goal of the season and John Gibson made 27 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.

— Calgary routed Arizona 5-2. Sean Monahan scored the go-ahead goal, his 27th goal of the season.

MLB-SPRING TRAINING

Harvey has medical issue

UNDATED (AP) — Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has been scratched from his final spring training appearance and could miss his opening day start at Kansas City on Sunday because of an unspecified medical issue. General manager Sandy Alderson says it's a non-baseball related problem.

Mets manager Terry Collins emphasized the issue had nothing to do with Harvey's arm. He had Tommy John surgery in 2013 and missed all of 2014.

Harvey is scheduled for some tests and is set to see a doctor later in the week.

In other spring training news:

— The San Diego Padres have acquired right-hander Dan Straily from the Houston Astros for catcher Erik Kratz. The 27-year-old Straily is expected to open the season in the Padres bullpen, although he has been a starter for most of his career.

— Masahiro Tanaka's final spring training start Tuesday against Philadelphia will likely determine whether he will be the New York Yankees' opening-day starter. Tanaka has a 7.36 ERA in four starts and gave up seven runs in four innings against Washington on Wednesday. Manager Joe Girardi called Tanaka's spring training inconsistent.

— Raisel Iglesias will be the Reds' opening-day starter against the Phillies, taking the top spot in their inexperienced rotation because Anthony DeSclafani is hurt. Manager Bryan Price says that DeSclafani has a strained oblique that will sideline him indefinitely. Iglesias made only 16 starts and two relief appearances last season, going 3-7 with a 4.15 ERA.

— Baltimore has named its opening day pitcher and for the third straight year the honor goes to Chris Tillman. He was 11-11 with a 4.99 ERA last year. In the April 4 opener, the right-hander will oppose Ervin Santana of the Minnesota Twins. The last Baltimore pitcher to start three straight openers was Mike Mussina from 1998 to 2000.

— It could be the end of the line for outfielder Nick Swisher. The veteran has been released by the Braves after hitting just .195 last season with four home runs in 46 games after joining the team in a trade with Cleveland. He's due $15 million this season but the Indians are on the hook for most of that.

— Veteran right-hander Jeremy Guthrie has been released by the Texas Rangers. The 36-year-old Guthrie signed a minor league deal right before spring training. He had a 5.14 ERA in three Cactus League appearances, allowing three home runs with five strikeouts over seven innings.

— The World Series champion Kansas City Royals have released veteran pitchers Brian Duensing and Peter Moylan and infielder Clint Barmes from minor league contracts.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

New coaches for Hilltoppers, Green Wave and Runnin' Rebels

UNDATED (AP) — Former long-time NBA coach Mike Dunleavy (DUHN'-lee-vee) Sr. is headed to the college game.

He has accepted his first college coaching job at Tulane, a school that hasn't been in the NCAA tournament since 1995. The 62-year-old has been the head coach of four NBA teams, most recently the Clippers from 2003 to 2010. He previously coached the Lakers, Bucks and Trail Blazers.

Elsewhere:

— Western Kentucky has announced the hiring of a new men's head basketball coach Rick Stansbury. He's been at Texas A&M the past two seasons as associate head coach to Billy Kennedy. Before that Stansbury spent 22 years at Mississippi State, including his final 14 as head coach, when he went 293-166.

— UNLV is turning to Chris Beard to run its men's basketball program. Coming off his first season as a Division I coach, Beard is leaving Little Rock to become the next head coach at UNLV. Beard replaces Dave Rice, who was fired in January. Todd Simon, who served as the Rebels' interim coach to close out the season, recently became the head coach at Southern Utah.

NFL-MOVES

Chiefs' Abdullah retires

UNDATED (AP) — Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah has announced his retirement after seven seasons because of concerns for his health. Husain said on Instagram that he sustained his fifth concussion this past season and said there were many factors in his decision with "personal health being foremost."

In other NFL happenings:

— The Green Bay Packers have taken a surprising dip into the free agent water by signing tight end Jared Cook. He caught 39 passes for 481 yards with the Rams last season. His 12.3-yard per catch average ranked among the league's best at the position.

TENNIS-KEY BISCAYNE

Serena upset at Miami Open

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Top-ranked Serena Williams' quest for a tenth Miami Open title has come to an abrupt end.

The four-time defending champ has been beaten by Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round of the tournament. Williams faded fast after a grueling opening set of nearly an hour in sweltering conditions.

That ends Williams's 20-match winning streak in the tournament. It marks the first time she hasn't reached the quarterfinals at the event since 2000. Williams hasn't won a tournament since taking the title at Cincinnati in August.

OBIT-VINCE BOYLA

Olympic gold medalist, NBA player, coach and exec

DENVER (AP) — Vince Boryla, a former player, coach and general manager in the NBA, died Sunday. He was 89.

The death was confirmed by the Denver Nuggets and the University of Denver, where he's a member of the school's Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the 1948 U.S. Olympic gold medal team.

Boryla played five seasons for the New York Knicks in the 1950s before later taking over as their coach for three seasons.
