Austin, MN (KROC AM News) - Police in Austin are asking the public’s help in trying to locate the driver of a vehicle that struck and seriously injured a young child.

The Austin Police Dept. says the 3-year-old boy was struck around 10:00 PM Saturday near the intersection of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue SW.

The accident was witnessed by the Austin boy's mother and a couple she had been visiting with.

APD says “The vehicle in the incident did not stop and made no known effort to check the welfare of the struck child.” The boy was airlifted to St Marys Hospital to be treated for “several serious injuries.”

APD says the vehicle that hit the boy was described by witnesses “as a dark colored SUV, unknown make and model. Damage may be apparent near the passenger side headlight.”

Residents who live in the area where the boy was hit who have camera security systems are asked to check for any retained video from around this time period.
