(UPDATE) Trooper Involved in Fatal Use of Force Incident on I-94

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Public Safety issued a statement today concerning a deadly "use of force" incident that shut down a section of I-94 in Minneapolis for more than seven hours this morning.

A news release says a State Trooper initiated a traffic stop after spotting a vehicle with no taillights on the freeway around 1:50 AM. After pulling him over, the trooper learned the driver was wanted on a felony warrant issued by Ramsey County and attempted to arrest him.

The statement indicates troopers were attempting to pull the man out of his car when he managed to speed away from the troopers. One of the troopers then discharged their weapon in the direction of the vehicle, apparently fatally wounding the driver.

His name, and the name of the State Trooper who opened fire, have not been released. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is in charge of the investigation.

The Minnesota BCA is investigating a use of force incident that happened in Twin Cities Monday morning.

Limited information is available, however a tweet from the state agency confirmed it happened on a stretch of I-94 in Minneapolis. The tweet also said the law enforcement member involved is a State Trooper. 

The Star Tribune is reporting the trooper shot and killed a 33-year-old man during the incident. MnDOT traffic maps and camera images from Monday morning showed the westbound lanes of I-94 were closed through north Minneapolis. 

The freeway has since reopened. The BCA is planning to release more information at a later time.
