Last night the Jordan Police Department shared a press release concerning a traffic stop back in January that netted over 13.5 pounds of methamphetamine from a woman who told police she was traveling back from California to care for a sick child.

20-year-old Pa Yang of St. Paul was stopped in Jordan according to the release "shortly after midnight" on January 16th.

Yang agreed to have police search the vehicle she was driving in after police felt there were "several indicators of suspicion." The initial search netted nearly 9 pounds of methamphetamine that were located in "a hidden compartment within the vehicle." Jordan Police indicated in the news release that the street value of the seized methamphetamine "is estimated at approximately $308,170.31."

Yang was arrested, and charged with 1st-degree Controlled Substance Crime. That carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, $1,000,000 fine or both. Yang was also charged with a 1st-degree Aggravated Controlled Substance that carries a maximum sentence of 86 months to 40 years and/or $1,000,000 fine.

The vehicle was then towed from the scene the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force obtained a warrant to search the vehicle again. The search turned up "an additional 4.91 pounds of methamphetamine within another hidden compartment in the vehicle."

The additional methamphetamine found brought "the total amount of methamphetamine seized to 13.51 pounds", according to the news release from Jordan Police. That amount of methamphetamine has a street value of approximately $484,117.21.

Officials indicated the information about the drug bust was not made public sooner because releasing it could have impacted an ongoing criminal investigation.
