Newport, MN (KROC-AM News)- The discovery of a body at a Minnesota transit center has initiated a murder investigation.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a medical call at the Newport Transit Center, which is about eight miles south of St. Paul, shortly before 11 a.m. Monday. A news release says deputies found a dead man slumped over behind the wheel of an SUV.

Officials say they believe the cause of death to be homicide. The preliminary investigation indicates the man’s death was not the result of a random act.

The man’s identity or cause of death has not been released. His body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The Minnesota BCA responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
