Brooklyn Center, MN (MinnesotaNow)- A child is dead and another suffered serious injuries in a collision involving a vehicle and minibike.

Authorities responded to the deadly incident in the Twin Cities around 3:00 Thursday afternoon. 

Both bike occupants were described in a news release issued by the Brooklyn Center Police Department as girls who were under the age of 10.

One Girl Dead, Another in Critical Condition After E-Bike Vehicle Collision in Brooklyn Center

A preliminary investigation indicates the girls were eastbound 63rd Ave N as they approached Brooklyn Dr. in Brooklyn Center. They were then struck by a vehicle heading south on Brooklyn Dr., police say. 

First responders provided aid to the young girls and gave them both CPR. The children were subsequently transported to a hospital. 

At the hospital one of the young girls was pronounced dead. Police say the other girl is in critical condition. 

Vehicle Driver Cooperating with Investigation

The vehicle driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement, the news release says. 

Police say the investigation remains active and the factors that led up to the deadly incident are under investigation.
