Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Alcohol-Involved Crash with Car Near Hay Creek Campground

Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News)- A crash near a campground in southeast Minnesota has left a Wisconsin man fighting for his life.

The State Patrol says a motorcycle and a car were involved in the collision and that alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash.

First responders were dispatched to the crash shortly before 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Collision With Car at Entrance to Hay Creek Valley Campground Near Red Wing

The collision occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 58 and Hay Creek Trail, which is near the Hay Creek Valley Campground. 

The motorcycle was traveling south and the car was northbound when they collided, the state crash report says. The report does not say which driver entered the oncoming lane. 

39-year-old Thomes Porames Eskeldson of Ellsworth was identified as the motorcycle operator. The State Patrol indicates he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with life-threatening injuries. 

Car Driver Suspected of Having Alcohol in His System

25-year-old Trenton Jason Matthies of Randolph was driving the car. The State Patrol says he suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Red Wing. 

Matthies was suspected of having alcohol in his system at the time of the crash, according to the state crash report.

He was also wearing a seatbelt. Eskeldson had a helmet on at the time of the collision, the State Patrol says. 

Mayo One Helicopter, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, Red Wing Fire and Ambulance and Goodhue Ambulance also responded to the car-motorcycle collision.
