Car Thief May Be ‘Casing’ Rochester Area Homes
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a vehicle that was reported stolen in St. Paul. There’s concern the person who stole the vehicle may be scouting rural homes as possible burglary targets.
Capt. Scott Behrns says a woman who was home in a rural neighborhood east of Century High School ( Hidden Hills Ln NE) Thursday afternoon heard her doorbell ring. She looked outside and saw a strange man walking around and then get into a vehicle and drive off.
The woman’s husband arrived home while the man was still in the driveway. When asked what he was doing there, the stranger said he was trying to find “Mike Fenske” who was selling a bike on Craigslist.
Behrns suspects the man was actually “casing” the house.
He was described as black, 25-30 years old, 6 feet tall with an average build. The vehicle was described as a newer black Toyota RAV4 with a license plate number of ACR-060. Behrns says the keys to the vehicle were taken during a burglary in St. Paul Jan 7.
Anyone who sees this vehicle or may have information about the case is asked to contact the sheriff's office.
