Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has withdrawn the charges brought against a Rochester man for a carjacking last month.

23-year-old Mohamed Mumin was charged with four felonies, including aggravated robbery after he was accused of threatening to kill a 53-year-old woman who was trying to help the daughter of a friend. The victim told police the girl had asked her to provide a ride to three of her male friends, who directed the woman to drive to a downtown motel.

When they arrived, the men ordered her out of her car after allegedly threatening to shoot her. Later that night, police located the car and arrested Mumin, who had his bail set at $350,000 dollars.

Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem says his office reluctantly decided to dismiss the case after further investigation led to the conclusion that the existing evidence was not strong enough to prove the allegations against Mumin beyond a reasonable doubt.

Mumin has an extensive criminal past that includes felony assault, robbery, burglary and motor vehicle theft charges in Rochester and the Twin Cities. Two years ago, he was given a 15-month prison sentence and in July of this year, Mumin was given a stayed prison term and was placed on probation in a vehicle theft and drunk driving case.
