Chip Sealing on Rochester Area Highways Will Result in Delays
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Motorists may encounter delays due to some road construction work that is scheduled to begin Monday in the Rochester area and elsewhere in southeastern Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says traffic will be limited to a single lane in each direction on the 48th Street South Bridge over Highway 63 in Rochester while MnDOT crews repair concrete joints in the bridge deck and approach joints. The work is scheduled to be completed by August 29th.
MnDOT says motorists will also encounter delays on a number of highways throughout the region while crews perform chip sealing. The work involves applying a thin film of heated asphalt and then a coating of small rocks followed by a fog sealant. In the areas where the work is taking place, motorists will be taking turns using a single open lane under the direction of flaggers.
- Highways scheduled for chip sealing work include:
- Hwy 3 in Faribault
- Hwy 21 near Faribault
- Hwy 14 east of Interstate 35 in Owatonna
- Hwy 14 – two-lane highway east of Owatonna to Dodge Center
- Hwy 56 from Kenyon to Randolph
- Hwy 63 along 75th Street Northwest north of Rochester
- Hwy 14 from Chester to St. Charles
The work is expected to be completed before Labor Day.
