The Rochester City Attorney walked around the downtown bar zone with two police officers well into the wee hours of the morning during a recent weekend and shared his insights with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell Wednesday morning on KROC-AM.

Terry Adkins visits the KROC-AM studio each month for the Rochester Today show and this month he discussed his experiences while "walking the beat" with two police officers from 11 p.m. through about 3:30 a.m. as downtown Rochester filled up with people socializing at the bars and other establishments that attract crowds most every weekend along South Broadway, 1st and 3rd avenues southwest and 4th street southeast.

Adkins says he saw some vestiges of the ugly side of the city's transformation in the late night hours (public urination, vomit on sidewalks, fighting, etc.), but he also did not feel he was in any danger, even when he was not in the company of the law officers. The City Attorney also noted that he was pleased to see the bar owners and employees welcome himself and the police officers during their tours of the establishments, or when they were asked to assist with unruly customers.

Police reports show much of the trouble that does occur in the "entertainment district" follows the bar closing time while the late night revelers are waiting for taxi rides to their homes. Adkins says things did grow a bit more tense as the crowd grew, particularly at the corner of 1st avenue and 3rd street southwest, but by 3:15 a.m. the streets were deserted and downtown Rochester had returned to its normal quiet state.

The YouTube video at the top of the post covers Terry's downtown adventure.

A regular feature of the City Attorney's appearance on the Rochester Today show is his "Ordinance of the Month" segment.  This month, it covered regulations involving hunting in the city.
