Comment About Rochester Murder Victim May Have Triggered Assault
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man is expected to face a felony assault charge for allegedly throwing a punch that left another Rochester man lying unconscious on a downtown Rochester sidewalk early today.
Rochester police Captain Casey Moilanen says witnesses reported that 25-year-old Yasin Sufi punched the 25-year-old victim after the two men got into an argument around 12:30 AM outside a business in the 300 block of South Broadway. One of the witnesses reportedly identified Sufi as the person responsible for the other man's injuries and the responding officers located Sufi about a half-hour later near the Mayo Civic Center.
Captain Moilanen says it appears the victim was unconscious for about a minute and he was still cognitively altered when officers arrived at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for treatment and has not been available to be interviewed by investigators. Moilanen says witnesses reported the argument between the two men started when Sufi apparently became upset over a comment the other man had made about the victim of the fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Rochester last month.
