Consequences of Ignoring a Red Flag Fire Warning in Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - This is why you do not ignore a Red Flag Warning.
The Rochester Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a structure fire in northeast Rochester. The responding firefighters found a deck on fire with flames spreading from a recreational fire pit to the home. The fire crews were able to extinguish the flames before they reached the house.
The Fire Department reported that the damage was limited to the deck and yard furniture. No injuries were reported.
The fire occurred while the region was under a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service due to tinderbox conditions, record high temperatures, and winds gusting well above 40 mph. That warning was in effect until 6 PM.
The National Weather Service reported the high temperature at the Rochester Airport this afternoon reached 72-degrees. That easily topped the previous record of 56-degrees that was set in 1946.
