The Rochester Public Schools have a lot of building going on right now, thanks to the 2019 Rochester, Minnesota, referendum that requested money for 5 construction projects. The $171.4 million covers "the cost of building a new elementary school, a new middle school, and other projects." (Read More: Rochester School Board Authorizes November Referendum).

A ton has been written about the new elementary and middle schools, less so about the other projects. "Other projects" includes rebuilding two Rochester elementary schools,  Harriet Bishop Elementary and Longfellow Elementary.

(PERSONAL NOTE: I think it is weird to say we're not getting three new elementary schools. I know only one of them expands the school district's grade school count, but still...the Bishop and Longfellow will definitely be new. Thanks, xo James)

INSIDE THE NOT NEW HARRIET BISHOP ELEMENTARY (if you get a queasy stomach easy, make sure to look away when they start going up stairs...they're really cruising and it feels like the boat is going to tip over)

The plan is to start Bishop demolition June of this year, and have it ready for students fall of 2022.

Longfellow construction is expected to start April of 2021, with construction complete by June 2022, in time for the 45/15 schedule.

All of this makes me think back to my childhood and Washington Elementary. I don't know if they were old or new back then, but everyone of 'em looked like some of the older, but not as old as Folwell, elementary schools in Rochester. No one I went to school with became a celebrity...how 'bout you?
